Nail or screw in tyre - remove or not?

    Hi,

Last night I heard a tap tap sound as I drove and suspected I picked up something in the tyre thread - this morning I see it's a a nail or a screw - it has a washer attached to it, and it appears to have gone into the tyre at the side of the thread (I don't mean the sidewall - it's in the middle of the thread, but in the thread, just beside the water clearing gap).

The tyres are just 3 weeks old, so lots of thread. Seems to have full inflation.

So, I'm thinking to leave it in it till the weekend (I'll do very few miles until then) so I can remoive it outside a tyre place if it deflates when I remove it.

    Good or bad idea?

Don't touch it. I had that exact situation, said I'd leave it until the end of the week, on the way to an appointment I heard a clatter as it flew out and the tyre went down almost instantly. I couldn't get the alloy off the hub for ages I kicked it off in temper eventually, was mucked to the eyeballs in a suit, was late for the appointment..... disaster of a day...

Just bring it to a tyre place as soon as you can. And let them remove and fill it. No point you removing it at all.

I drove around with a screw in my tyre for about six months! I thought I just had a (really, really) slow puncture or a faulty valve.

Tyre place took it out when I eventually went to see what the problem was, repaired it, and not a bother since.

Keith Duffy will come out and fix it. I heard him on the radio.

Ha, not really to my taste. I'll wait for Jimmy Page :)

Keith Duffy knows as much about tyres as he does singing.

Always leave in until you can get to a repair centre. 90% of the time a simple plug will do, €10.

Thanks everyone, I'll leave it in.
