Sky with OpenWRT

I'm due to be switched over to Sky Broadband in the coming days and just received the new Sky Q hub today. Has any successfully used their own setup instead? Seems Sky are keen for people not to use their own gear.

I can see lots of guides online about extracting authentication details etc. for the older models (SRxxx), and one or two for the newer ones (ER110 which I received) advising to clone the MAC address. Most seemed to be aimed at the UK market and I'm not sure what authentication Sky are using over here for the FTTC.

I've had the same TP-Link running OpenWRT bridged into a Vodafone modem for the last few years (just updated the PPPoE details moving from VF to Eir) and I'm reluctant to change it unless I absolutely have to due to the amount of static IP's and ports configured on it. I'd appreciate any tips on using my own.

    VDSL or ADSL?

Auth is the same here and the UK so those procedures are the one to follow. With ADSL you'll be able to do a straight change of PPPoE details.

With VDSL you'll need new hardware to do it.

Sorry should have mentioned, it's VDSL. Any idea what kind of hardware would be required? My current config is a bridged VDSL Vodafone router into a TP-Link Router.

Actually, derp, I missed that. The Sky Q unit wont allow you to forward PPPoE cells(frames) but the Vodafone will, so once creds are acquired you're still good to go.

Ah nice one. Thanks for the info. I’ll give the wire shark method a go later and see if I can grab them that way.
