Might be in wrong forum. Apologies if it is.

I bought a 50 year old house some time ago and am only now getting around to doing it up.

I'm talking a complete refit, electrics, new floors, plumbing, external insulation, the works. My problem is I know nothing about these things and don't have the time to be organising plumbers and electricians and all that jazz. What I'd like is to get someone in, tell them what I want, agree schedule of works and price and for them to come back to me when everything is done. But who is this person? Is it a builder??? Will they take care of applying for the grants and that. I know I'll be paying more than getting all these services in one by one but it's just I don't have the time nor patience for it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Adam

I would suggest you need someone to prepare an energy spec who also has sufficient knowledge to offer cost effective and wise solutions to insulation options etc. You will also want someone to carry out inspections of the works and certify compliance with building regulations at a minimum.
You may also need someone to offer structural advice depending on extent of the works being undertaken.
A quantity surveyor may also be worthwhile to aid with tendering and costs in general.
One professional may well cover alot of that for you but one thing not to do is allow the builder to find an Engineer and look after everything. You need the professional on site to be looking after your interests.
You obviously need a good recommended builder also to do the work as specified.
