    Hi boardsies

Currently have voadafone tv but ditching it when contract runs out.

Before it running out want to see can I get a Combi box working in theory dish on side of house from previous owner and aeriel on roof. Some kind of kit in loft that along with aeriel ports in various rooms indicates to me being a little bit techy but not super techy that I should be able to cut the chord on pay tv.

So any recommendations as want to ideally get it working and if I can't then bring box back to shop. IdeallyFTA and saorview channels with hs built in.

    Thanks in advance

*Title should be hd not hf!

What make & model TV do you have? It might have the necessary tuners already built in.

It's a Panasonic bought a long time ago in the north

Some older Panasonics would have satellite tuners, you'd recognise it by the screw type connector for the cable.

If you're in Cavan, the aerial is probably set up to receive UK TV, & you should at least get the main PSB channels.

There is a shop on Parnell Street, at the top of Moore Street, also DID and Powercity sell combo boxes.

Thanks for the replies / posts.

So I had a read of other posts on boards and a bit of googling and then had a good look at the current set up but I can't work out the setup the previous owner was running. I can't work out does he have the sky dish connected to the amplifier / splitter in the loft or does this connect to the aerial that is on the roof. Does that even make sense?

So current situation is using the aerial points and plugging coax cable straight into tv it picks up Irish radio stations - think this means it's a mega old tv from the north.

I have a old triax saorview set top box without a remote that when I connect to the aerial points it picks up Irish saorview. I don't have a remote so I can't mess about with settings on it.

Now my next steps is to get a fta combi box probably from maplin in blanch and plug this in and see will I get fta channels. Do you think I have any chance with this working?

If this fails I'll have to call someone out but ideally would like to save some money and solve it myself (with the help of boards).

    Hi all....

Update but first of all to everyone across boards - so much useful info.

So I bought a Ferguson 153 box and plugged it to the aerial ports and after the autoscan got 61 channels. Only couple of BBC channels not coming through with a clear signal. Not sure if it's windy or if my aerial needs to be readjusted.

I found the Satellite cabling - long story it's not in the room where we have the tv! Will plug that into the box tomorrow evening and see what happens with that.

    Thanks again all.

I presume the satellite cabling you found is in the attic ?

You will probably find a UHF splitter Box up in the attic that feeds the aerial connections to all the rooms.

Identify the one going to the main Tv room disconnect it and junction it between that existing UHF splitter box with one of these. The satellite connection can be added on the other leg of this splitter below.

In the room itself connect another one of these sat/uhf splitter except in reverse.

Effectively what this allows you to do is combine the satellite cable and aerial in the attic on the one cable going to the TV room and then split it back out to two. So you will need two of them. Get yourself some F connectors too as you will need to change the connections on the cable.

thanks for this info - very very useful and has made me think further!!!!

so this is what i think is happening / confirm current set up (which thanks to STB post makes it clearer)....

The satelite runs a feed direct into a room downstairs (long story why i didnt spot it and not in the room that i want the tv in) and into the attic. Also seperately in the attic you have the aerial coming in. Then i have a six way splitter that splits the aerial signal round the house.

the room that we have our tv in and want to watch is some distance from where the satelite cables are coming directly into the house - as i said in a previous message i will check to see what the satelite is bringing in with the Ferguson 153 box i have to see if freesat is an option.

Your points have been really helpful about using the current splitter to pipe the freesat around (if i have understood correctly what you posted). I'll do some further working out what is happening and see what potential solutions i can find. I think i can definitely say ill be cancelling my tv package!

Also checked the tv this morning from the aerial signal and receiving bbc must have just been bad wind last night interfeering with signal.
