Contracting advice

Hello, I've been working full time permanent for the past 7 years in IT. I am in the middle of making a decision to go contracting for the foreseeable future. I have a really interesting 6 month contract lined up.

Would anyone have advice or lessons learned on setting up the basics as a contractor? I know I will need to find an accountant but I was hoping to arm myself with the basics before meeting them. For example, how does a contractor set up healthcare/pension/expense accounts etc, and when are those accounts paid into (before tax or after tax? Yearly or monthly?).. I'm coming from a place where I just received a salary payment and all the pension and healthcare etc was taken care of by the companies.

Any tips/links from all types of contractors would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
