Anyone know what this is about? The Garrihy sisters got an award as did Kathleen Watkins.

Out on a limb here but could it be, women of the year award?

Woman of the Year Awards judging by the two examples you posted but I'll assume you knew that considering you know who won.

    What are you getting at?

What have they done if it is women of the year awards? One of them is on fair city hardly worth in itself of an award

Yes indeed you are right. Saw something about this but wondered about what some recipients did to deserve the awards given. Catriona Perry and Kathleen Watkins got awards. Those Garrihy sisters, although I only know the one who was in Fair City.

Have I missed something? Did any of them discover a cure for cancer or what? Why did Perry win an award?

It's a pile of ****e is what it is.....a lot of pretentious people slapping each other on the back ........thousands of ordinary women out there dealing in real life issues who deserve it more than the majority of that lot.

Giving women prizes for being women now?...awww, that's cute, as long as they can make a decent cup of tea I'm all for it

Spot on I feel. Women who don't seek fame or publicity. I think of some women I know who are selfless and brave and who do things for others and who receive nothing. And when I see these publicity hungry people , well it makes my blood boil.

Women of the year? A bit like Serena Williams being called the best female player of all time. Why not people of the year?

Nah, she has a book out.

These things are just back slapping promotional events that mean nothing. See also: IFTAs

Niamh Farrell from HS (Ham Sandwich) got the award this year.

I interviewed her after a gig in Killarney.

    I was amazing.

They gave Ibrahim Halawa a standing ovation. A supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood and conservative Islam and you have the audience of an event aimed at promoting women mindlessly celebrating his presence.

    You couldn't make it up!

I’d say the sandwiches at a gig like that would have to be spectacularly good, in all fairness.

For all the talk of men keeping women out of STEM, there's no science award. Instead, a heavy emphasis on fashion, entertainment, media, or stereotypical women's interests. They need to broaden it out a bit.

She stole €14k from Brown Thomas. Pleaded guilty as she was caught red handed. Certainly not a role model.

WOTYA... I don’t see the problem, although I would like to know how they verify that nominees are actually Women.

Those three Garrihy's are head wreckers. Sure sign it's a complete circle-jerk when they're handing out "Personality of the Year" awards.
