Domains used by apps

I don't have data on my phone and regularly use the office Wifi under BYOD policy. There are various restrictions on this access with some sites. I've noticed that some apps wont work fully on the phone but the sites appear to be unrestricted - for example the My Vodafone app wont work, but I can easily log on to my office PC and use it. I can connect to Whatsapp, but cant receive messages. Is there any way to find out what domains are used by what apps so I can arrange to have these unblocked?

Its probably not that simple. In most cases you'll have vodafone.ie and then m.vodafone.ie for mobile or app.vodafone.ie for app resources. Under a normal whitelist these would all be treated the same.

What I assume is happening is your PC has a company root cert installed so you don't connect to the service but to the company firewall which connects on your behalf. This way the company sees everything you do and can filter it (block viruses etc).

With BYOD the HTTPS traffic is outside their visibility so instead the allowed list is far more restricted. You can ask your IT desk but I wouldnt be surprised with a flat no.

The simple solution is to get data on your phone. Your IT department don't want to be dealing with requests for non work related stuff being able to work on the work WiFi network.
