Hi i hope i have posted in the right forum.

The problem i have is as follows.

I went to a car dealership to buy a car. I found what i was looking for and had the required deposit of 5000 euro. The salesman and i went to fill out the loan application for the remainder of the purchase price and everything was great till my occupation came up. I told him i was a taxi driver for 20 years full time and tax cleared. With reluctance he said the finance company wont deal with taxi drivers. I could not believe it but went away disappointed. I decided to apply for finance directly with the finance company and lay out my position regarding other loans and outgoings i have but this morning i got an email to say they will not deal with taxi drivers. No reason just no.

What i would like to ask is if this is legal. Surely they are discriminating against a certain section of society. I would be in trouble if i decided to refuse all members of the finance community regardless of there ability to pay or not.

I would welcome any answers to the question i asked.

    Thanks in advance.

Hello OP; I think this forum will be more suitable to your query as it's relating to the purchase terms of a car.

Are you trying to buy a car using PCP? These contracts don't generally allow for purchase by companies or people using the car for commercial reasons.

It's surprising that you are having this difficulty given that the majority of cabs on the road appear to be vehicles less than five years old which clearly must have been purchased on credit. Have you spoken to other drivers about your situation?

Are you buying the car to use as a taxi or as your own private car?

I think this finance company does not finance cars to be used as taxis.
I guess your profession makes them suspicious that the car will be used
    for such a purpose.

The resale value of an ex-taxi(even with low mileage) is much lower than
    a private car, unfortunately.
