At what point do people start becoming weary of you simply because you're not an overweight man in a suit with a cheesy grin, standing in a sterile glass box of a building with a few cars and brochures inside?

I'd say 5-7k for a usual car, 10-12 if you're looking at something interesting (non white goods car)

    I’ve spent 30k privately.
And I’ve sold at 30k privately.

    Both times BMW’s, an X5 and a 520d.

The most I sold at privately was 5k, most I spent privately was 12k.

you might have heard earlier in week guy Dunshauglin lost a 142 Mercedes by agreeing to meet prospective buyer at side of road - feel sorry for him but what was he thinking

I would ask anyone coming to view to send on as much ID as possible ( at short notice) and then have another guy with me at my house for whoever comes to view.
would never show or buy car at side of road

Yes but the flip side of that coin is that you will be told never bring a stranger to your home to view a car in case they try to rob your stuff.

Ultimately when buying/selling stuff privately there is a level of risk involved as you are dealing with total strangers. You can only mitigate so much of that risk. There is still a leap of faith for both the buyer and seller irrespective of the amount of money involved.

Some people value a crappy 3 month warranty very highly..

Highest I bought for private was 5k sterling

People have been selling things from home for years. get them to send photo id and other id and dont give them enough time to get fake id

The last place on earth I'd be showing a car to a stranger is my own house. Bought and sold all my cars from car parks or petrol station forecourts etc and never had an issue. I wouldn't dream of giving my address to someone though so they can come and cage the place and see whats around to steal.

I also wouldn't send a copy of my ID to some stranger I was looking to buy off, not a chance. Plenty of people out to scam your information and use it too, probably a lot more than are trying to steal a car/cash from you at a private sale.
