    Hi,
I very rarely get the train but I'm going to Dublin from Cork tomorrow as I will be doing the Dublin Marathon on Sunday. With regard to the disruptions & subsequent bus transfers- It is the norm to only give 2 days notice of these? If I had known this I might have made alternative arrangements.
I know its only a small inconvenience but I would have liked to have know before purchasing

Who plans track works on one of the busiest days of the year in Dublin City Centre? The mind truly boggles.

This has come up before, they often chose bank hols to do works. IIRC the reason is it doesnt impact the commuting cohort who are the #1 customer base.

wouldn't be a bad idea in theory. problem is though it could be quite a few years between strikes.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

You do realise that it's not just driving staff who are going on strike but many other grades as well?

It's been on their website for over a week.

You can buy train tickets more than a week in advance.

I believe the issue is that while the notice has been on the website for a while, you could still book tickets without the disruption being mentioned. Not sure when the booking engine was updated, but bookings made before this were e-mailed of changes.

I know but even a week is more than a 2 day notice.

Members of other unions would be unlikely to pass picket lines.

When booking, it would show as one change for the bus transfer.

It's been in the journey planner for some time, did you look at journey details properly....

Yes, but the day 20,000 people are running in the city centre, and many more spectating? That's pure idiotic.

How many work there on regular non-bank holiday days?

Sure there’s no public transport to bring them into the city anyway.

So it's been in the journey planner since you've been able to buy tickets for this weekend?

And yes I did look at the details properly

While I can't say the above definitively, it has been there at least a couple of months, as I decided to take a look at booking a return ticket from Dublin to Killarney this weekend (down for a wedding, so being able to get a train back if a bit shook was appealing :)) and was puzzled by the need for bus transfers on the return leg around Mallow. In the end we drove as >80 return per person for two of us was prohibitive, in particular with the bus transfers which would be the one of the worst tortures I could think of if worse for wear!

However I initially looked a few days before tickets were available, and I think I checked again the following week and transfers were shown, so I'd not be surprised if all tickets flagged this online from the start.

Rather annoyed by IrishRail today. Yes I noticed the bilingual notices at my DART. Yes I stopped, read and reread. Yes I was informed to expect disruption this weekend. No I was not informed there would be no DARTS. I wish IrishRail comms team could do a course in communications. Suppose we get refunds on annual tickets.

Would of been there for around a month at least, did you check your junk mail to see if you received notification.

They had notices on the website up unusually early this time round.

The fact remains that doing major engineering work on Bank Holiday weekends is utter stupidity and a PR disaster.

All scheduled engineering works are shown on the website months in advance, as it should be.

Not really, at least 2 or 3 out of the 5 weekends per year have some form of major works.

You will be delighted to know there will be no services to/from Heuston over Easter 2018 either.....
