Install connections on coax cable (for Virgin Media)

Bought an extension coaxial cable (about 6m) and installed it behind the skirting boards. Now I have to install the connectors at both ends and plug in the Virgin Media router :) Would the simple screw-on ones be sufficient? Also, is there a way to cross-check if the plugs are installed ok?
