Biggest cause of non compliance is because they're failing most things that come in based solely of the age of the machine. Caddy failed on the side door not unlocking, and there was a bit of rust where the paint had cracked on the rear door jamb. The craic now is the centres get an inspection if they're seen to be passing a lot of gear the first time

That so called NCT and DOE put some fine examples off the road. It is as we know, and always will be an utter joke.

Neighbours car, a fiesta passed running on 3 cylinders.

In for a world of hurt if caught driving without test though.

Given a retest only normally checks the items that failed previously, you might be better to find a mechanic that knows what to do to actually fix it properly.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Well if a new fault was found they are obviously checking more than just the original fail item. The mechanic is an easy target here but might not be to blame at all.

Any savings on keeping the van on the road are welcome. I find the test to be very good. I keep the van in good nick and have passed the test first time for the past three years. Prior to that it only failed for items that genuinely needed replacing, wish bone and worn tyre. I guess it comes down to the test centre in a lot of cases. I find wicklow to be very fair, for what its worth.

To be honest I'm a bit surprised that there haven't been more posts welcoming this news.

Usually we are giving out about increases and being ripped off.

You have to do the test anyway so a few more quid in your back pocket is a result as far as I'm concerned.
