    Hi All ,

A small uk company has a contract in southern Ireland that will take two years to complete.

Would the uk registered company commercial vehicle need to be registered in Ireland if its going to stay here for the two years?

Yes - if it's over 12 months. Who it will need to be registered to in Ireland is another question, but the good news is that if it's a 2/3 seat vehicle (rather than a crew cab commercial) then the VRT is only €200.

12 months is just the timeframe when you don't need any permission for exemption. If over 12 months the company applies to Revenue to have a special exemption for the time of the contract, they would need to supply evidence of the contract timeframe.

For 200 it might be better just pay it but then as was mentioned what address to use and will a uk vat number qualify you to get commercial tax in the south? Its a transporter combi (crewcab) will that affect VRT.

Lease the vans needed from the likes of Northgate. They may be able to supply the vans here but charge through the UK.

if the company is a UK registered company paying UK tax then it doesn't have to be re registered

That is totally incorrect and the van could be seized from you at any time if stopped.

If you're an Irish resident you can't legally drive a foreign registered car here. Regardless of the company's status or otherwise.
