Weekend fun car

I'm looking for a weekend car - something a bit fun, second hand, ideally with back seats.

I was looking at a Mazda RX-8 and only thing that is putting me off is that it seems to require a very careful owner in terms of maintenance - so I'm looking for something like an MX-5 with seats in the back (doesn't need to be soft top).

What else is out there? Budget would be somewhere around 10k but I'd be willing to go back 10 years + as I won't be doing a lot of miles in it.

If you buy an RX-8 that has had the engine done recently then I believe they're an easy ownership prospect and if you don't do many miles then you can stomach the MPG. I'd love one as a second car. I believe the 231bhp is the one to go for.

Did this recently and got an e36. Wouldnt be many peoples cup of tea and there are a lot more driver focused cars out there. A 225 audi tt is on my list if I can expand my storage options.

Toyota Landcruiser Commercial. Off the wall suggestion, but so useful for everything from going to the tip to climbing hills to camping to ikea... you get the idea.

Hot hatchbacks are the way to go for a fun weekend car because you can just throw them around. Something a long the lines of 225 Megane,Focus ST,GTI Golf etc

A lively car that is eligible for classic insurance is the way to go if you're after a 2nd car to use as a weekend cruiser/blaster. Case in point the e36 as mentioned above.

That is of course unless you're selling a normal car that you might already have and plan on using that insurance policy and ncb to insure the new purchase?

Thanks for all suggestions so far - Audi TT would be an option if I find one with good mileage - same for 3 series coupé. Not that keen on hot hatches though - I drive a Yaris during the week so looking for something a bit different.

S2000 is exactly the type of thing I'm looking for - with back seats! Or today's equivalent of a Toyota Celica

Test drove an Audi TT today - tough to find one with low mileage where I'm based (not in Ireland) and they are a bit common - but that is close to top of my list now
