I have often considered similar as a way of displaying traffic signs onto road - paint them onto the surface like the signs on football pitches that appear to stand up but dismissed my idea as lunacy as I believe its dangerous as if only one motorist has a funny reaction when they catch sight of it at just the right angle it could cause an accident.
It will only give the desired effect from the correct approach position and it will be even less effective with 2 eyes compared to a single point of view camera.
Overall I believe that is dangerous, its plays with perception of distance and that is the last thing you want to be doing on the road.

Optical illusions don't belong on the road. it's hard to observe properly when you are concentrating more on something that looks out of place and hard to understand. The last thing I need is to be distracted and doubting what I'm seeing.

And you'll of course slow down won't you when your unsure of what you're coming up to?

Yeah, but that's besides the point. I slow down because I'm reacting to something odd, then the person behind me, poses a risk to me if they are not expecting me to and don't see why I did and likewise behind them if they don't react as required.

That's without anyone being present waiting to cross the pedestrian crossing. so eh... "Why the hell did that guy slow down, stop and spend a minute looking at the road?"

If you want to signal something to a driver, do so clearly and concisely. Don't put puzzles on the road that challenges their perception.

Not slow down, you'll come to a sudden stop when you crash into the rear of the driver in front who panics at the last minute and slams on the brakes.

You can't play mind games with motorists.

So you guys are saying that despite advanced warnings signs for the crossing, the potential of pedestrians then crossing and the crossing itself you still may crash into each other because you won't expect someone come to a slow down or stop?

We should bring back men with flags for this type of thinking.

No. I will react as required to proper signage. Give people something that is done out of spite and they'll react badly because they are confused, or start to ignore the signage.

As I said, I don't want to be doubting what I'm seeing while driving. I'm quite surprised someone seems to be indifferent to it.
