Moving medical records and appointments overseas

So I am moving to the UK in the next month or so as have been offered a new job and will be with my husband, who lives there. All very exciting and I feel it is a new, happy period in my life.

In 2015, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully, I got through all my treatments and came out the other side. Feel fit and healthy, and thankfully no problems since.

I have to go to my oncologist every 6 months for a followup appointment. This involves an examination by doctor and a chat as to how I feel, any problems or symptoms etc. This will hopefully change to once a year soon and will only be for another 3 years (fingers crossed). I also have a mammogram once a year.

I would have no problem coming back home every 6 months for appointment but for my last 3 appointments, they have been cancelled at last minute and rescheduled. This just is not going to work out if I'm having to come over from the UK. Also, if I do start getting any funny symptoms over there, I cannot be hopping on a plane each time. I think the best option is to have all my records moved over there and just be referred to a specialist over there. I'm kind of worried about leaving the system here as they know my story etc but then again, I'm sure I will get good treatment regardless of where I go

My question is, has anyone experience of doing this? Is it a big problem getting referred to a new specialist abroad?

Sorry if my post is very long!!

Hi - I'd recommend having your post moved to the "Long term Illness" forum, where there are more likely to be users who may be able to advise. You could ask a moderator to move it.
