I'm painting a room with emulsion paint..i have undercoat done and one coat of finish..it feels a bit rough to touch..kinda like very fine sand. I will be sanding down before the final coat ..so my question is how do I get a smooth finish...should the paint be watered down a bit or what...
    Thanks

What brand of paint are you using?

    Thanks for reply.
I'm using Johnston's Trade Covaplus vinyl Matt.
It's 10 ltrs of white paint with a mix ( in the shop ) for desired colour...
Wall are well prepared..undercoated and sanded etc. I using a purdy roller ..

No offence, but Johnstones is poor quality paint in general. I would always advise people to look towards premium brands such as Colortrend. It's proper paint with great opacity and the finish is superb, brushed or rolled. In the greater scheme of things, going for Colortrend over your selection adds very little to the overall material cost when you breaks it down.

No offence taken... I agree an extra 20 quid on a whole room is not a lot.
The guy in the paint shop ,who I know well , told me that a lot of his customers...real painters ..use it all the time..
The finish looks spot on its just to the feel it's a bit grainy.
    Tks

Doesn't really help with your query, but I, as a professional painter, agree with dodzy. I wouldn't touch Johnstone's with a barge pole.

It doesn't help for this job but helps for the future so thanks for your input.
I feel I'm very close to getting it right but something needs to be tweaked a little.
As I said earlier it looks spot on but just needs to be a little smoother..
A proper painter used exactly the same paint on my son's house and it's as smooth as glass...
    (Almost ).
    Tks
