Accused of bullying

I'm just here to get people's opinions. A colleague and what I thought was a friend put in a grievance against me at work. Bacially I'm his supervisor , so it's my job to tell him what to do. He went and said I would get him to do unnecessary jobs and I would distract him from work to chat and it goes on. He also put legs on stuff I'd said to him that made me out to sound like a bully.

He had told me stuff that was going on with him and his husband at home and always came to me with problems. He is quite difficult to work with when the bosses aren't there and I like a fool felt sorry for him so never complained. We had a minor tiff about him being a few minutes late for work which I said he should have rang to say he'd be late. He then put in the grievance. I was shocked, in the end nothing came of it. My friend said I should be very very worried about this. He's made me feel unsafe now in the workplace. I genuinely feel I've done nothing wrong

He got his retaliation in first.

You have a problem as any future "occurrences" will be painted as you trying to get him.

Got to admire the devious minds of some people.

If you are in a large mature firm your HR department should be able to deal with this through normal procedure. There are two sides to every story but taking yours as accurate you should have nothing to fear from a thorough investigation by HR. Its all too easy for people to pull the "B" word these days. Work with your HR department who should initiate an investigation which if what you say is true will show his claims are nonsense. Then the problem is his!!

The Supreme Court have ruled that it is necessary for supervisors to criticise employees in the workplace on occasion and it does not constitute Bullying.

I don't know the facts of your case but I would think that him being over sensitive is not going to let a complaint stick.

I'd ask that he be transferred out of your team however "for his own good" but really for yours.

He said that I talk to much at work about normal day to day stuff and it distracts him from his work!

Thread probably belongs in the "Work Problems" forum however based on the accusation that you are giving him "unnecessary" jobs and distracting him from his "actual" job then i would start making notes.

At least for the next few months write down every time you assign him a task. Note and date and time and short description of the task along with a comment on any tasks he is already working on and keep it in a spread sheet.
Also make note of any time you spend chatting and the duration of these chats.

It may seem like a pain but it will only take a few minutes per day to maintain and could be invaluable if he makes further complaints.

Also be careful not to be seen to take revenge on him for making the complaint. You may subconsciously do this so just be careful.

I'm staying well away from him, and taking notes. I just feel he's made me sound like a real fool in front of my boss. He did try to make friendly by initiating small chat but I told my boss I wanted it on a work bacis only. I just hope my boss believes me, I'm with the company 12 years

A few minutes late for work, seriously...
It only gets better,I'm like wtf...
    This isn't ww2 or a work camp...
I don't believe a boss could be so petty

Are you taking the preverbial ?

No wonder they're annoyed with you.

If I was you I'd be firing off cv's

    There's always one.

Play the devil's advocate all you like but the hyperbolic pseudo outrage shtick is way OTT. At the outside, the OP has misread his relationship with a colleague. Nothing to get het up about.

Your boss/owner isn't still thinking or worrying about this and neither should you.
After 12 years, the boss has a good idea of your character and temprament and knows what to expect from you.
