Got a lad in here to clear a field for me, the fella driving went too fast, where he went slow around the headlands was done fine but where he went to fast it only knocked a lot of the stuff. One part was bad with rushes but bit all had a lot of grassy weeds as well.

I hired one off sheridans in arva, Cavan for a day and was seriously impressed with it.

I was clearing heavy rushes with a lot of grass between them,

The slower you went the better the mulch but equally if you were going too fast or met a big clump the machine throws it out rather than clogging or blowing shear bolts.

I would advise you to hire one first as some people like them and some dont

Ya or 150 cash....you need to have at least 10/12 acres/be willing to drive for 10/12 hours to justify it....well thats what i worked out when I took my time to collect, unload it , my time mulching, my diesel and the hassle of it and then load it and drop it back compared to getting the contractor at 40/hr.....

I hired one from Sheridan for a day. I thought it was well built . I had it on 110 hp 6 cyl tractor. I would think 100 hp minimum for strong rushes.
Output was about 3 acres/hour , burned lots of diesel.
I wasn't impressed by its cut also when the grass/rushes got wet it was inclined to drag big lumps.
Definately hire one for a day before you buy.

I would be surprised you got that much ground covered in an hour

I wasn't sparing it ( borrowed horse and all that :):))
I suppose I wasn't fussy about the finish either.

Is it correct that the 2.5m wide machine does a better job and is stronger than the 3,0m?

The 6'5 (2m) would do me anyway. The 18'4 (5.6m) would want serious hp

Bought one last year, just took it out for the first time for 2018 yesterday. Very impressed with it. Have a 2.5m version running off a Zetor 9641 though I'm told it can run on an 80hp+ machine. Its great for clearing marginal areas with rough old grass and briars, rushes etc. But what its also great for is clearing furze before they get very mature with thick branches. Was told it can cut gorse with branches up to 2 inches thick.

Overall very happy with the machine but considering its price, a person would want plenty of work to justify it.
