Losing signal on WI fi extender

Hi folks, hope I'm in the right place for this. I recently upgraded to fibre and get great speeds from the modem of 90 - 100 mbits. But the router is in the office I've set up at home and I use most of the internet in the living area.

So I bought an extender from tp link. That may not be the correct term, this comes with two plugs, you plug one part into the router and the wall beside it, and this carrys the signal through your wires in the house so in theory you can get signal any where you plug the other plug into.the system works quite well it's just there seems to be a massive drop in the speed from 90 - 100 to 15 - 20.

I was expecting some bit of a drop but not this much. So is there anything I can do instead, is there a better version of what I have already that might work?

Use ethernet instead to connect both wifi hotspots with no drop in bandwidth. Powerline networking can be erratic, depends on your home wiring and what other devices are plugged in.

    Terminology: Homeplugs or Powerline Adapters.

If you have AV600s going to AV1200s might get you to 35Mb or so. Wouldnt expect much more.

Is your home office in an extension or garden villa yoke? If so theres a good chance its on its own RCBO electrically which neuters homeplugs. Running a cable is the best solution.

I found this all very difficult to achieve when I used TP-Link PLA-211 powerline adapters in a workshop attached to the house's main electric circuit. The workshop has its own RCBO, and when the TP-link units were installed, they wouldn't work for me. I then put in a Zyxel PLA4231 unit that incorporated 2 Ethernet ports as well as a Wireless Access Point, and that worked ok for me in the same sockets in the workshop.

Any Powerline adapter setup can be iffy in terms of speed etc, but for me, no other solution (such as installating an ethernet cable or whatever) was viable. I therefore found the working Zyxel solution to be a huge boon as it gave me access to Internet browsing in the workshop which is all I needed.

Ok I've decided to run a cable through the attic and will see how I get on.

Make sure you use the latest cable (Cat 6?) to maximise the data transfer speeds it can handle.

    And please don’t feed Thanks

All done, had more than enough with a 20 metre cable, crawling through the attic was a bit awkward but we managed it in the end!

    Thanks for the advice folks
