There are two things that couldn't do without in a laptop these days and that's a full HD screen and a SSD. The Curry's one has the former and the Komplett one the latter. I'm not overly familiar with the CPU differences between the two but for your tasks it probably won't matter. What's your upper budget limit?

Thanks for the reply. I would be hoping to keep the budget as close to €500 as possible. My current laptop has about 480GB on it at the moment, but is imagine that's a lot of crap. I intend to store my photos on two external hard drives instead of on the new laptop ( for security and back up as much as anything).

I'd like an SSD, but I'm worried about the small capacity of them on the laptops in my price range.

I will probably hold off until Black Friday and scour the internet for a deal then.

The Acer has 1 dedicated SSD at 128GB in size and a completely separate 1TB HDD. This is not the same as a hybrid hdd/ssd which another animal entirely. This is a good configuration as you have the 128GB for your operating system and essential applications. And your 1TB HDD for all pictures/music/movies etc. Keep in mind that you'll have to set things up appropriately when you get the computer.

That being said, I would never have been much of a fan of Acer. Cheap build quality means they can have shorter lives, but when comparing to other lower end laptops I'm sure the rest are fairly similar.
