Hi all I've just got married just wondering how to use my tax credits, I'm on 45k and my wife is on 28k, I'm looking for the best way to use the credits, am I better taken some of her credits or leaving them, I don't know that much about the tax system
    Thanks in advance

Ring up and get an assessable spouse form and you can leave the credits as is and send it back in. You might be able to get it online but it wouldn't open for me when I tried to get it. and then do a balancing statement at the end of the year for this year 2017. If you got married this year 2017 then put that in as the year to start, if it was 2016 put that.

You should get a refund then as any unused credits will come to you and that's about 5500 which will be taxed at 20% and not 40%

You can't do anything until the year end.

You could consider transferring some of her standard rate cut off above €28,000 to you.
