Hi, I am employed and I pay tax through PAYE but from 2017 I have additional income for professional services as a freelancer. In 2017 I will have (more or less) a gross additional income of 7000 €, While my PAYE gross is 12000 €.

    - Do I need to register to ROS and file a tax return even if this is the first year I have additional income?
    or
    - Is it enough to declare additional income on myAccount on revenue.ie?

    thanks a lot.

You can declare that additional income next year as 2107 is an active tax year. What will your net taxable non PAYE income for 2107? If it's 5000 or less, then you can add the additional income through my account on an e form 12 tax return with no need to register for Income tax or ROS.

Thanks. I have seen this "net" taxable income in some revenue articles/FAQs. How do you define "net" in this case? The gross income less work related expenses?
