His family have been trying for justice for many years but have met with an absolute stonewall at every attempt.
Maybe now that Catherine Zappone and her lunatic fringe have succeeded in obtaining the return to Ireland of Ibrihim Halawa they will focus their attention on justice for this unfortunate priest's family.

am I missing something, how could something like this happen and nobody so prison time?!
1980's Ireland. Where who you know was more important than what you did.

People complain about Garda corruption now, but we're several steps improved where we were back then. There was no real Garda co-ordination at a national level, so it was easy for local Gardai to cover up for their mates. Even outside of that, a quick word in the ear from a local politician to a senior Garda figure or a judge could see even murder conveniently forgotten.

Remember this was Haughey's era. Corruption was not only acceptable, it was a way of life for those in the higher echelons.

Unfortunately as time moves on, the people involved die and memories and evidence fade. The judge who moved to dismiss the charges in this case, has been dead for 14 years.

So at this stage, there won't be any justice. There may be a damning report, but there'll be no chance of charging anyone.

Its investigation into the case found that “many original documents including exhibits are missing”, with no record for who handled the exhibits and who may have been responsible for them now being lost.

So much wrong with the handling of this case it beggars belief.
