looking for help, we have 1 year old staff who was amazing for the past 5 months or so, but all of a sudden has started going toilet inside at night? She goes right before bed but still does it, we go to bed the same time every evening too noting has changed. Very very odd but I am not sure why! She isnt having water before bed, is sleeping the same amount too. Any suggestions? She knows too well that outside is where she goes but its at night time only?!

Could be worth while bringing her to the vet, she might have a kidney issue. I know when my girl had a kidney infection she was up 3 or 4 times a night to get one of us to let her out the back.

How long has it been going on? Some dogs get very nervous this time of year with bangers and fireworks going off, she could be getting a bit nervous at night and then going toilet because of it.

My old dog developed a fear of the dark when she was about 1, she'd get very nervous and upset if she was left alone in a dark room, you could try leaving a light on for yours and see if it helps.

The other thing I would say is that I would never lift the dogs water bowl. Our guy has access to water when ever - day or night.

She loves the dark and I wouldnt lift her bowl, but she doesnt drink it typically past 8 , but all is totally normal. Noting has changed in routine or food/water , she isnt nervous and doesnt whine, its just when we come down there could be a Pee or even Poo!! Very out of the ordinary. Feeding time hasnt changed but maybe worth feeding her either later or earlier?

Does she have a set feeding time or do you put food in her bowel and she has it when she's hungry?

If nothing has changed and she's not upset at night, definitely consider a trip to the vet to make sure everything is okay.

Boredom could be a factor at night, make sure she has stuff to play with at night.

Has anything changed out the back where she likes to go toilet that could be putting her off?

Can you narrow down the time it happens during the night? Might be worth while getting up, in turns, every 2 hours to leave her out even if there's no sign of piddles.
