I have heard nothing since was just wondering what the normal time frame is and can your claim still be disallowed?

What happened when he / she called to the house, does that only happen on certain cases it’s very unusual as my carer is one and we never had anyone call

Ok but why did an inspector come to your home to collect the details why not just post it off

I'm not entirely sure! He said it was just to go through forms from reading other posts it seems quite common for an inspector to call?

It's normal for an inspector to call and go over your application with you, as is the case with any means tested payment. The wait for processing can be long, sometimes as much as 6 or 8 months. You may qualify for Supplementary Welfare Allowance http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/supplementary_welfare_schemes/supplementary_welfare_allow.html
in the interim if you have no other source of income. Just keep calling them in Longford, they will eventually tell you what stage the application has reached. Very often, the applications are refused but they will tell you why, if that happens, and the time you have to make an appeal. Many are awarded on appeal.

You won’t get Carers Allowance because you can only be in either work or education up to 15 hours a week .

If your application is successful, your payment will be backdated to the time the application is received.
