Co-op in a school

Hi, I organised my own co-op in a primary school at home for next semester. I'll be unpaid, and the school told me that they didn't really need me for five days, or from January-June. However, when I was in the co-op office, my advisor kind of implied that that is what I have to do. Obviously, I'd love to only be in for three days from the end of January until like May, but is this allowed?
A friend in UCC who is also on external placement in a school at the moment told me that they were informed by UCC not to do more than 2/3 days if the work in the school was unpaid.
