How to file as PAYE worker with additional income

    Hi,

I'm a PAYE worker but I also have a non PAYE income on the side. The problem is I can't quite figure out the best way to account for this additional income. Not sure if relevant but the total income would be under 10k and with considering setup costs the actual net income would be low for 2016 - a few thousand at best.

I'm looking to file now for 2016 though the options are confusing me. Is it a Form 11 I need?

I'm looking to register on Revenue Online which says "You should register for self-assessment if you receive income from non Pay as you Earn sources".

Then it says - Who is the service for?

This service is for anyone who wants to:
    • register a new business for a tax
    • register an existing business for additional taxes
    • cancel any or all tax registrations for an existing business
    • re-register for a tax
    • register a partnership or a trust
    • nominate an agent to one of your tax registrations - Revenue Online Service (ROS) customer only.

Is this something I have to do via a paper form in my local office or can I register online? Appreciate any help in advance.

You register on line for ROS, you may not get it done by the Nov deadline for 2016, as its a two stage, postal dependent, process

Is it easier to just visit a revenue office?

I simply cannot figure this out online at all. Trying to register for ROS asks me for my tax registration number and I don't know where to get that - it says it could be the same as your PPSN but it is not accepting mine.

If your non-PAYE income commenced in 2016 you're not required to file until next year when you can file 2016 and 2017.

You can always try, but the new and improved Revenue believes interaction with customers should be done online.

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

Thank you for the replies. I've just registered with MyAccount now on Revenue but I have to wait for the password to arrive by post before I can even log in!

This tax stuff is head melting.

Also totally confused over the nature of additional income and what's required. Other than literally a list of costs and record of sales, is every individual supposed to issue a full invoice with vat etc - because I certainly do not do this and wouldn't have the first notion how to set this up - do you have to be actually registered as a sole trader?? I cannot find anything to explain or outline how PAYE workers should present additional income.

Let's say for example I painted houses the odd weekend or gave grinds etc - what's the protocol for declaring this income?

Basically I buy and sell IT stuff, do some repair and upgrade work too. It's all cash in hand and sold locally but I want it to be above board but the Revenue website is a maze.

That brings me back to my original problem - it's asking for a registration number to register for ROS but I'm unsure where to get this. It's not my PPS as suggested in many places. Assuming that 'income tax' is the tax type I should be selecting from the list of two dozen confusing options!

In order to register for ROS, you need to be registered for income tax which you are not. If your taxable profit is under 5000 for 2016, file a from 12 online using my account. If over or you want to register for income tax then you need to follow the below.

Thanks, that is helpful. I've applied for myaccount but I've to wait for a password to issue via post. The taxable profit for 2016 will most definitely be under 5k. Thanks again.
