Kitten in heat

HI all. My kitten has just gone into heat and I'm looking for any advice. Shes just gone 6 months, that's an estimation as she was a rescue kitten. I was waiting for her to be at least 6 months before getting her spayed but now she has gone into heat. I'm obviously going to make an appointment as soon as possible once she comes out of it (if she does, a vet says sometimes they can't???).
I got such a fright when it happened as I thought something was seriously wrong. It's really horrible to see her like this. Is there anything I can do to help her. I'd really appreciate any advice.

Keep her inside at all cost; rubbing their belly and cuddles sometimes help and I recommend investing in earplugs 'cause you'll need them when she starts to sing at 3am in the morning. Also make an appointment for Monday next week because once the cycle starts it can be only days before the next heat coming on.

I think anyone who don't want to neuter their cat should spend a cycle with a female in heat; after that spaying does not in any way seem cruel or unjustified.

Thanks Nody. I agree and I had every intention of getting her neutered I just didn't get it early enough by the looks of it. I'll be calling the vet today to make an appointment.

I have a question -why do you have to wait until shes out of heat to have her spayed?

Also had a colleague who had one go into heat around 4 months old....he was none to impressed!

Higher risk operation due to additional blood in the area; some vets will do it and/or give a shot to try to cut it short but most if not all recommend waiting it out if at all possible.
