drain hole

Hi folks, living in an estate, in a mid terrace house, back garden about 4m wide and 7 metres deep. Theres a grass section raised about a metre (due to the shape of the land) and is maybe 4x5.

I've a new shed just put in at the end of the garden and the plan is to run power and water out to it for the washing machine. It'll be off the mains.

The waste water for the washing machine is where the query lies. I can, with considerable effort and expense, link in to a sewer drain that runs from the house down the side of the garden.
However it has been suggested to me to dig a hole c. 80cm metre deep and about 40cm wide, fill with larger stones and then gravel, leaving 20cm of soil on top (so 60cm of stones or thereabouts).
This came from someone who has done this before and it works well, with a few sinks, shower and washing machine running into a similar setup, however they have more land around them.

Do you think this would cause any problems? bearing in mind the machine is run on average less than once a day however could be run twice in succession.

Given the size of your garden I feel you could run into problems with percolation and soakage.
For a trouble free life I would look at installing the drain.

    You really need a drain.

You are going to have to dig a hole anyway to put the water pipe in.

I would think carefully about the whole arrangement. You need to consider how to protect the washing machine in freezing weather. (Freezing water and washing machines is not a great combination.)
