HI All, My 2006 Toyota Yaris NCT failed for CO emissions high at High Idle, everything is fine except CO emission. CO emission at low idle is passed. as per Toyota dealer mechanic recommendation Exhaust back box and air filters were replaced with new one, but CO emission test failed again for same reason. Can anyone suggest what might be the reason for this issue. following are the test results.

    1st time test results
Low Idle (779 rpm): CO: 0.23%
    HC: 66 ppm

High Idle (2780 rpm): Lambda: 0.99
    CO: 0.55%
    HC: 102 ppm

    2nd time test results
Low Idle (780 rpm): CO: 0.02%
    HC: 36 ppm

High Idle (2680 rpm): Lambda: 1.02
    CO: 0.51%
    HC: 114 ppm

Can anyone suggest what might be the reason for this issue.

To be fair it was fairly unlikely that a back box or air filter was going to sort that.

Did the main dealer carry out the repairs or did you just ask for them for an opinion? If they done the repairs I'd bring it back to them and tell them it failed again amd see what thry suggest. If you just asked for an opinion with no diagnosis carried out you are out in your own a bit.

I'm not great with these emissions ones myself but plenty will be able to interpret those readings for you.

It was fixed by Toyota dealer, I have appointment with them tomorrow. before that I would like to have an idea on this situation to avoid unnecessary expenses.

Ask them to check the fuel trims of the car to see how the engine is running. Then report back to you. If they say the engine is running rich, ask them to investigate and repair the rich condition. Open a dialogue with the garage and if they suggest replacing a part, ask them if this will definitely fix the problem. If they say 'Yes' and it doesn't fix the problem you are within your rights not to pay for the work/part replaced. If they say 'ummm...we think it might', tell them you'll be by to collect the car and to stop work. They're guessing and their parts swapping will cost you money unnecessarily.
