Just a quick question regarding insurance cover for temporary workers on the farm in particular chainsaw men coming in to cut fallen trees. Are they covered under normal employers liability or do they need their own insurance?

They’d normally be covered under the casual Labour section which can be left off a policy

Was asking about lads that would be doing building work here. I was told they are not covered . I would need to get back to them before building starts to sort it

Maybe cover is different in each individual case, but ours will not cover our casual workers on a new build, but will cover for repairs and maintenance.

I would never let our employees use a chain saw, as I felt it was excluded, but in any case it's really looking for an incident or trouble.

A local agri contractor who for some reason loves cutting trees (I think it's the bit of a gatherer in him) cuts up any fallen trees here and takes them away for himself, but leaves a heap of it in our firewood shed for thanks...
