    Hey

Double whammy today. Car battery flat and then was using physical key to open the door and the bloody key broke.

    ***See attached pictures**

Seems like it just needs to be soldered maybe.

Does anyone know of who could fix this ?

    I am based in Galway.

That blade is meant to come out. You just need a new blank and transfer that broken bit over. Try adverts or ebay.

(I have one here in front of me, but I'm in Cork. Sorry).

Exactly, if you buy an uncut key blade you will get what you need. The "coded" part of the fob is seperate from the bit that is snapped and can be swapped over.

You will see a little pin that can be pushed out to remove the new uncut blade and your existing one will fit in.

    This is what you need:
    Ebay replacement blade

You can buy these from a dealer too but they are more like €40 iirc.

If you are in a hurry a good independent locksmith might be able to help.

Or you could get get a key from a scrap yard and harvest the bits you need, it's very easy to do. That key is used on virtually every VW group vehicle from the late 90's until the present day.

When you say uncut key blade, does the key then have to be brought to a key cutter to sort it ?

I don’t see the little pin you talk of.

I’m confused, am I just completely swapping out the silver key part ?

You already have a cut blade that can be reused.

There is a pin that goes through to keep the blade in the fob. It looks like your existing one is lost but a new one will come with the new blank key.

So you order the bit I've linked, remove the pin, remove the uncut blade and slot in your old blade and replace the pin.

I've marked in red the track on your old key that the pin runs through.

Thank you, sorry for being thick. I thought you were talking about a different pin.

So if I’m just replacing the blade in to a brand new key fob, how will the new key fob work, does it have to be re programmed etc ?

It's not a new fob, just a new blade housing,

Exactly, the bit with the buttons is the coded bit and you will be keeping your old one of those too.

All you really need the new part for is to rob the hinge

Right. I’ve tried un assembling the current key fob. But seems to be difficult. Is there a trick to it or just force.

    Yep, thanks for correction :)

Can’t seem to pull it apart so it’s broken up to give me one part like the eBay link.

    The layout of this :

Is different to the ix35 key here :

Lol I thought you had a VW key, looks very similar, sorry.

Don't know if the same applies to the Hyundai key but it looks like it does. Sorry again!

    No probs.

Any ideas on how to remove the buttons part ?

Looks a little different for a Hyundai key but not impossible.

Yeah. Was having a look at that video. He is doing a complete overhaul though. He removes the battery, transponder, circuitry etc Think I just need to swap the key blade silver part.

If the metal blade holder on yours is cracked like the one in the video, you could try filling the crack with Araldite or similar epoxy resin after reseating the blade.

There's a screw under the VW badge.

    Hang on, that's Hyundai?

Any thoughts on this ? If I was to order a new casing, I could disassemble the new casing, disassemble the old casing. Then swap the key silver part from new to old casing. Take out new blade part. Then replace with my old blade.

    I think :/
