In regard to an Irish guest house.
Are these normally in a persons private house ?
Would you be interacting with a family ?

Guest house to me is more of a small hotel, minus most of the facilities. B and Bs can sometimes be in a family home but usually you dont see or interact with them apart from when they serve you breakfast. It wouldn't be normal to have the family roaming the house.

Many B and Bs would be a dedicated building for guests with the host living next door or close by.

They vary from house to house. In very touristy areas like Galway and Kerry, the operation will be in a purpose built house run like a small hotel and you will not meet the family. Typically, the dining room will be off limits to members of the family who are not serving guests. And where there is a sitting room for guests to lounge in, this will usually be for their use only.

So in most cases you will not be sharing space with the family. If there is a teenage girl making beds and/or serving you breakfast, she could be family or she could be a local girl making some money on the side.
