All the car dealers are now offering PCP which means average Joe can go out and buy a shiny new car. So demand for second cars has probably dropped off a bit as a result.
People are trading in their old cars to avail of PCP and so their is a glut of second hand cars out there.

Add to that "Dieselgate" has seen the popularity of diesels drop off in the last 12 months.

So there isn't much wrong with your car or your ad, it is just where the market is at right now.

Hijacking the thread here, but any feedback on the following ad from folk here?

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/vw-passat-estate-just-6-per-100km-in-diesel/16945491

I'd improve the sharpness of your interior pics, the one of the trip computer is nice and sharp but the rest are out of focus and are pretty much useless. Try to either move closer or get a nice sharp zoom lens and take some pics in focus.

I'd also remove the children's books from the seat pockets.

It's about 2K overpriced, the estates tend to be cheaper. The price your quoting is a the price you can buy it from a garage

    Thanks for feedback.
Sorry I was replying to the O.P but I guess the same advice applies.

As for your ad, would it be worth giving the car a professional wash and valet?, a good wash and valet should cost less than 50 euro.
Probably best to remove any personal items.
The photo of the drivers seat isn't great, the mud on the pedals doesn't give a good first impression.
These things are all cosmetic but the its the one thing that puts me off buying a car.

Perfect for family motoring, those with dogs, or people who enjoy an outdoor lifestyle. Never been smoked in.

    Price is only €9950.

4 Vredestein sportrac 5 tyres fitted at 90k, at least another 20k left to go on them.

    Price is only €9950.

All rear windows tinted to keep the glare out of young eyes.

Striked out the showroom nonsense that everyone else ignores. It also looks like you are dealer trying to get out of providing some form of warranty. You don't need to state the price you are looking for 3 times in the description, as that's on the Ad already and the way you comment on it, makes it sound like it's not a lot of money. Let the buyer decide that.

List any spec that you think stands out or is useful. Any consumables replaced and when?

I agree with the above, take out all the sales pitch nonsense, it doesn't sell cars. I'd also definitely remove the "€6 to 100km" from the title, it's far far too preachy. Replace it with "Comfortline" or whatever spec it is.

    The car itself looks good.

Your price is way out. You're about the most expensive private seller with a 2011 Passat estate on DoneDeal at the moment. It's mostly only dealers above €9k by the look of things.

This guy is an hour out the road and is starting at €1500 less than you, same car, year, similar mileage and similar tax and test remaining. Most people will drive an hour to save over €1500. If you are willing to compromise a bit on mileage you can have a similar car for mid to high €7k, which again a lot of people are willing to do.

You need to rethink the price if you want it to actually sell.

Has the timing belt been done? If not it's due and you need to price this into consideration or get it done if you are holding out for a higher price.

Get the kids stuff out of the car, put some tyre dressing on those tyres and drop the price.

You sure? Timing belt on Passats are 180km. Either way if it hasn’t been changed I would draw attention to it.

Car needs a valet and take the baby seat out for the photos. I don’t think it looks well overall and the estate is a real bonus

I'd get rid of the child seat, for me child seats mean baby sick and stinking seats/carpets, I won't even enquire about a car with them in the pics.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 276 ✭✭Murt102

Definitely take out all personal belongings when taking the pictures, often when people see children's stuff in a car they think the car is going to be a mess inside.

I'm not sure what extras it has but list them. "Comfortline spec so has extras such as 16" alloy wheels, roof rails, air con, multi function steering wheel, fog lights, electric windows all around, central locking, automatic lights & wipers" or whatever it has. It adds more info to the ad and makes it that bit more impressive.

Still way overpriced but, you only dropped it by €500.
It won't sell at near that price IMHO

Have you dropped the price? Doesn't seem you have.

9k for 2011 that spec car seems crazy to me.

Brother sold a 131 passat saloon privately, had 2 enquiries Only, now it had high mileage but I think he sold for 10k after, had it advertised at 11k which at the time was a few grand below most on donedeal
