    What about the Ford Ecosport?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,523 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Ford ecosport is a dreadful car and shouldn’t even be sold here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

I don't think the Mokka is far behind it in fairness?

I expect Mokka to be phased out with new crossland model.

Folks have a 15 Mokka, it's not an X but it's a horrible yoke anyway. They've had it a few months now and don't like it. They liked it at first. I think it's horrible inside and out and not particularly comfortable either.

Interesting to hear that from an owner.

I've never been in one but every time you see one you do have to wonder why the buyer didn't want something more popular and generally better like a Quasqai or Tiguan or even a Kadjar etc.

Opel are going through a terrible phase of making stuff that ages at a rate of knots and looks dated 15 minutes after they come off the production line. That and you can be sure the Mokka will depreciate like a stone.

you need to say why, otherwise it comes over as prejudice rather than informed opinion

OK what others in this class are there?

Mokka/EcoSport are more a Juke rival, much smaller than a Qashqai or Tiguan. The Mokka is an Asian design that was more developed for the emerging markets over there. EcoSport was primarily designed for the South American markets and based on the last generation Fiesta. Mazda CX-3 and Toyota CHR are much better efforts.

There is a glut of new small sized SUV crossovers coming on the market in the next 12 months. The VW TRoc, Hyundai Kona, Kia Stonic and Seat Arona.

Sister also has a Tiguan, it's much nicer than the Mokka but I'm not pushed on the whole SUV thing. Folks also said they test drove a Tuscan and didn't like it, but they're biased towards Opels(dealer has treated them well for 15 years).. Only SUV types I've liked the look of has been the Honda one and the new Toyota one.

Whatever you do op stay away from Mokka's.

Apologies, I should be more specific! The EcoSport is a car for developing nations rather than Europe. It shares a lot with the Transit Courier van, interior is from 2009, it looks ridiculous, and supposedly it's terrible to drive. I haven't driven one but have been in one.

The Mokka is in a different league, but still not that great.

Should be noted that the ecosport and Mokka are an awful lot cheaper than a Tiguan.

I'd have a Renault Captur or a nearly new Toyota CHR over those two. Even a Nissan Juke, which is getting on a bit now would be a better bet.

Looks wise I don't really like either the Mokka or the Ecosport. The Mokka looks a little cramped to be a proper mini SUV to me. The Juke is another car I've never liked nor understood - Is it a car or an SUV?

However. I really like the Toyota CHR. Friend of mine has one and I have to say it looks and drives the business! Sadly, my budget cannot stretch to one just yet :pac:

Another friend of mine has just bought a Honda HR-V. Beautiful looking car, and apparently drives like a dream. Would either of those appeal to you, OP?

Another runner would be the new Qashqai - another great looking car.

Captur, Kadjar, Peugeot 2008, 3008 would also make nice alternatives. Any of those be an option for you, OP?

CHR and Juke are very similar.

All Opel models are designed and built to a high standard, at least on a par with the other major European manufacturers. It's just the brand name has a certain staid image nowadays in comparison to VW, for instance. I see no credible evidence to deem an Insignia, Astra or even a Corsa as being inferior to a Passat, Golf or Polo.

VW is hardly a paragon of reliability to be fair.

No, I don't think so. The CHR looks and feels like a small SUV. The Juke? I dunno. Like I say, seems to me it can't make up its mind whether it's a big car or small SUV. Awful design too.

I shall have to research more, my guess is that most of them will be far dearer and thus out of the picture...(not keen on French cars even if not built there)

I would test drive them all. I understand there is a waiting list for a test drive of the new Qashqai though. Look at the Peugeot though - Good value for money and very well spec'd.

CHR is the exactly same width and height as the Juke, it has an extra few inches on length, but it still very close in size and it's clear that Toyota looked very closely at the Juke's styling and design when designing the CHR.

Putting Kadjar against Ecosport is not really fair... They are completely different league, why not bring F-Pace or Q7 to the table? They are SUVs too...

If I were to choose, I would definitely check Pug 2008. After seeing the pictures and thinking mehhh, the interior surprised me very positively in person. Honda HR-V would be another contender...

Personally I am a worshiper of Toyota hybrids, but C-HR is ... weird. Especially when sitting in the back, the sea of plastics. It's more than fine though if you don't carry anybody in the back.

the eco sport is a fiesta on steroids. I really dont see the point of it. The mokka i think is the better of the 2. I haven't driven the mokka but i have the astra which its based on really, interior wise its the same as astra. I find the astra drove surprisingly well, but thats my opinion. Your best bet is to go test drive them and see yourself. If you like them and get a good deal, why not.

Was in the UK over the summer and had 2 cars rented. Was given a Captur and a Mokka X, Mokka X felt a far better built car. Engine in the Captur was really lackluster, felt like I was dropping down into 2nd gear even for small inclines. Still wouldn't be too keen on owning a Mokka X full time though, hard to look past the new T-Roc and CHR.

    That's a no then?

Hopw about the Skoda Yeti, how does that compare?

    .

I test drove a HRV last year, lovely car, but it's wildly expensive compared to each and every one of its competitors.

I agree that the Ecosport is a terrible car designed for emerging markets but the Mokka is a good car that looks good with a nice interior. But the OP could also look at the Opel Crossland X which also competes with the Mokka, Captur, 2008 etc and is much newer that the Mokka. I do think the styling for the Crossland is a love it or loath it do just like the Nissan Juke and Toyota C-HR which stands for coupe high rider which is what it is a coupe on stilts.

The Crossland is the first of the new Peugeot based Opel cars.

Yep, it's a badge engineered 3008 which is not a bad thing.

Oh right, thought it was based on the 3008, it looks similar in size at least in the photos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,523 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

It's pretty much the same size as the Mokka.

Yeah, looks like the soon to be released Grandland X is going to be based on the 3008.
