We are trying to plan dates for our house extension next year, providing we can get someone over the summer months and was just wondering do all builders taking hols at end of July still stand? Years ago the guys I knew used to completely shut down for these two week but not sure now?

Practice has ended, now only the big ones shutdown, and even then not so much.

In my experience they all take the week leading up to the August bank holiday.

    Alot of places shut down!

Window companies will be closed, Some hardware places close, bathroom & Tile places close.
So 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after is mental.
Just plan it and ask now, do ye close for builders holiday?

It's normally "race week galway and the following week" - end of July & first week galway

I work on large building sites and the practice of them shutting down hasn't happened for years. Smaller guys might be a different story.

Ask your builder directly and also your architect if you'll have one. Our architect went on hols in early July, builder went the two weeks after that so we really lost out on the whole month. Definitely worth checking out in advance.

    Not in Dublin.
2017 was the first year since the crash that I seen 90% of my sites closing for Builders Holidays.

On the other hand, the small scale domestic extension market tends to keep going, but its a worthwhile exercise to confirm with your builder prior to commencement.
