    Hi

Ok just wondering what approx. the cost of these would be

    • Clean out Radiators 6 in total
    • Installation of TRV valves
    • Labour

Its taking half a day to do and the cost is €280 labour and €65 for the TRV

Just looking if this is good value or not?

When you say clean out the rads, what exactly is the plumber doing?

You want to stay away from someone taking the rads off & just running water from the garden hose through them. The price quoted is far too high for this job. It's not very effective & a waste of money in most cases.

The only way to clean the system properly is with a power flush. This cleans the whole system, pipes and rads. He also needs to put inhibitor into the system when he is finished.

You need to know how he is cleaning the rads before anyone can tell you if price seems good or not. Also is price inclusive of vat or plus vat?

He is draining the rads and putting on the TRVs not power flush. We are aiming to move within the next year so don't want to put the Inhibit it to limit the costs.

Price is everything included labour and parts

    Your are wasting your money.

Sludge can build up in a heating system over time. It can stop some rads from heating properly. Draining the system & filling it up again isn't going to do anything. The sludge goes hard and needs to be broken down

You are effectively paying over 300 euro to fit a trv. If it were me and I was moving in a year I wouldn't be bothered getting any of it done.

    Thanks

will check and see what he is exactly doing. Thing is we have a newborn baby and rads ok for the winter but we want them to be perfect . The plans are to move but nothing urgent so we maybe there longer who knows. Just want them for the winter heating

    update

Was told that the cheapest power flush is €500 and that I have no sludge in my system

Fit a magnetic water filter to your heating system and that will indicate over a short period of time if you have any sludge issues.

I'm not sure how they can tell that you don't have sludge without draining the system.

Anyway if you are happy that you don't have sludge then don't pay anyone to clean the rads. Get a price just to install the trv or as Gary says spend the money on magnaclean instead of cleaning rads that don't have sludge.

500 for 6 rads is fairly expensive. Depending on your location I’d say you’d get the whole job done for 500
A mag filter is never a bad idea
