I am trying to sell a 2015 Ford Fiesta and I have reduced the price twice. Its posted at less than all the other cars of the same year and spec but we have received no calls at all. The only thing we are receiving is hoax emails!
Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? (i cant post a link because im a new user on here :(

People will find it hard to hand over that amount of cash to a private seller

A brand new Fiesta of the current model starts at €16,650 for the entry level spec, someone with €12.5k to spend will likely get a few more quid and get a new one. You would need to price yours around €10k or less to compete with the competition...

most of those priced around €10K are petrol cars. Dont you think a Diesel is worth more?

This dealer has one asking €10,900. Yes it has a bit more mileage but it's still a good bit cheaper than yours and it's being sold by a dealer which people are more comfortable buying from in that price range.

Does this mean that I am stuck with my car? I cant afford to let it go for too low as I will need to replace it. Its just not big enough for us as a family car.

Well the car is only worth what the market will pay for it rather than what you need to get for it. Have you tried to part exchange it against a bigger car?

    no not yet :)
I thought id get a better deal doing it this way

You normally do but realistically it's very unlikely to sell at a high price. Remember that your car will be a year older in 2 months time. If you are in no hurry then keep dropping the price every few weeks until you start getting some interest.

Indeed it's the cheapest 15 diesel on DoneDeal but petrol is now far more desirable in this size car again. You'll have to price it into petrol territory if you want to stand any chance. There is good choice in 15 petrol for thousands less than your car.

The only way the OP would get what he's looking for is as a trade in. Nobody wants to buy a car privately unless they are getting a sweet deal.

I noticed two points I forgot to mention. Very low mileage for 2 previous owners, are you the 2nd or 3rd owner? Maybe you should drive the car and use the brakes, there's a lot of surface rust on the pic of the alloy.

From recent experience with a family car purchase in this segment, I would note two things from my point of view:

1.) in this segment of car, I don't believe the diesel is as desirable/valuable compared to the likes of a larger saloon. (For most buyers)

2.) You would be amazed at the levels of discount available when purchasing a new car with no trade in or finance.

In relation to 2 above, the new car we looked at had a list price of 17,900. The standard discount brought this to €16000 with most garages we checked. When we advised that we would be paying by cash with no trade in or finance etc, we got the car for €14k. We were offered a similar deal on a Fiesta too. I think you need to bare this in mind as it would make no sense to me to buy privately at this price, when a new car with warranty costs only a little more. I think you need to forget about the list price of the car, as I just think these are artificially high to allow for discounting and subsidising finance/pcp deals. As a previous poster pointed out, a car is worth what someone is willing to pay and it just seems to be priced a fair bit too high in my opinion.

Wait, list price 17,900 and you bought for 14k even?

    What model was that?

It can only have been an outgoing model of something that was in stock already. A previous gen Ibiza maybe?

Very low mileage on a Diesel is not actually a selling point. Having said that it's a nice looking car, but people looking at your car can get a petrol from a garage with a warranty for less unfortunately.

Personally in the same boat with a budget of around 12k, it's seems crazy not to stretch a little further and get from a dealer

It was a Renault Clio, Dynamique Nav, Flame Red, Petrol. They threw in mats and €30 of fuel also. (bought end of January). Car was in stock and not a pre-reg.

Dealer will yield less but if you have to drop the price so much to sell the net effect is the same plus all the extra hassle.

If you have a good idea of the car you need to replace it with start engaging with dealers to get some quotes and trade in values.
