Switched from eir to SKY but the connections only ~1/2 as fast?

Hi, apologies for my ignorance, due to the price hike I switched from eir to SKY. Got the Sky Q router today, connected it up and its working, in that I can connect to the internet. However when running speedtests I've averaging around 20, whereas with eir it was around 35. I'd thought the speed would be the same as the line is the same. Is it the SKY Q router (which seems a bit ****, only 2 ethernet ports is a pain) and if so could I replace it with a third party one?

I remember being told that the speed improves after 24 hours or so, if the router is left on.

Hi, thanks for the info, digging through their online help I found something similar saying the speed would be tested over the initial two weeks. Perhaps I'm just a suspicious bastard but it seems less than coincidental that two weeks is also the same length as the cooling off period ;)

That only happens when DLM is used, its done in the UK but not ROI.

If sky are using the "Stable" profiles for Q customers then such a speed drop would be expected. Put your phone number into the eir site and it will let you know the line rating.

Sometimes the profile is set slightly off. Your safest bet is to post on their talk to forum and ask them to check your profile. If it's not a profile issue be prepared to go through their pointless troubleshooting.
