United airlines refund

    Hi all, bought flights to the US with United for the end of the month but due to unforseen circumstances can't travel anymore. I wasn't expecting to be able to get a refund for the ticket but when I cancelled the email I got said that they have received my request for a refund which should be processed in 7 days. Just wondering if anyone knows if I should actually expect to get said refund? Don't want to get my hopes up for nothing! :P

    You should get a refund of taxes less any administration fees

    That would be better than nothing! The cost breakdown thing I was shown at the end made it look like I'd get the full amount paid back though that's why I was so surprised.

    I did get money back on a united airline flight I had booked through ebookers. I was surprised as I thought they were unrefundable. So fingers crossed.

    i had same issue back in april, booked two UA flights to vegas
    they give u 24 hours to cancel for free (or something really short like that, it may be 48)

    i booked directly on united.com

    i also cancelled via the website (after the time allowed as elapsed) and received the email saying id get the money back in my account however a few days later i got another saying it could not be processed so i called up and they said that there was no cancellations (it is in the terms of your booking)

    the only other option is to rebook but the flight must be within 12 months
    you cant transfer names either, must be same people using them

    there is ONE way u can get a refund, if u can provide with a doctors note that u could not travel, then u can submit the refund application. i couldnt be arsed doing this myself so rebooked one of the flights later in the year and currently have a 400 credit to use before april but it must be in the same name as one of the passenger it was originally booked under

    Yeah that's what their T&Cs said but then when I cancelled it seem to say something different...guess I'll just wait and see!

    yeah, it said something different to me when i cancelled as well, so i got my hopes up and went ahead and booked aer lingus as the flights were same price and better times, but then a few days later i got an email from united.com saying no refunds so ultimately i was left with 4 non cancelable flights to the US for the same dates, thankfully salvaged something and rebooked one of the united flights last month and now have another credit the person i was traveling with can use up until april

    sorry do disappoint ya but united are pretty much w*ankers when it comes to this kinda thing, i even have a frequent flyer card with them with loads of miles racked up but it made no difference to their flexibility,

    only two options u will be left with (in my experience from this year) are

    1. get a doc letter saying unable to travel and request refund that way
    2. rebook under the same name for some time again in next 12 months

    best of luck with it!

    Ah that's what I figured, if I get anything back it'll be a bonus I guess! Can't get a doctors note or rebook but sure I wasn't expecting to get anything back anyway.

    It was non refundable, got the email a few days ago to say no refund can only rebook within a year under the same name. Ah well!

    They sent me a feedback form though and I told them they should not be so misleading with their cancellation process, I wasn't expecting a refund but it definitely gave the impression that I was going to get one!
