Posting phone from Ireland to Canada

A friend ordered a replacement phone here in Ireland before moving to Canada. It didn't arrive in the shop before he left so I have to send it to him now. It isn't in any box but does have the screen protection stickers etc. on it so is obviously new. I have bubble wrapped it and put it in a jiffy bag. An post won't take a phone so I'm looking at courier services. Should I tick the box that it will be subject to customs duty and charges? It's a good phone worth €800 on prepay, but this is a replacement which cost €70 and is on bill pay. How much do I claim that it is worth? And how much will he likely to have to pay if it is liable to customs? Thanks in advance.
