Paye Anytime - Tax Credits

Hi folks, I'm trying to review my taxes for the last few years on PAYE Anytime. Everything looks straightforward enough but I can't figure out how to adjust tax credits.

There are 2 fields for tax credits on the final page of the submission. One for personal and one for PAYE tax credit, both for the standard amounts. However, my P21 balancing statement contains extra tax credits for Medical Insurance Relief (and also for Revenue Job Assist Scheme for 2014).

Can anyone tell me how I add these extra credits to the form? There is a dropdown with a list of extra Tax Credits you can claim but I don't see either Medical Insurance Relief or Revenue Job Assist as options here so I can't see anyway to add these credits.

Annoyingly you need to notify Revenue of these by email (through the MyEnquiries service). They may need some backup documentation - best thing to do is give them a ring to confirm what exactly you need.

Thanks for the reply. That's a bit of a pain in the a$$ seeing as how everything else can be done easily online.

I know, I tried to do it myself earlier in the year and I had to ring me and that's what they told me. I decided in the end to just claim the credit in one go when I'm claiming my medical expenses in the new year. Will be a nice little lump sum to get in January!

I just submitted my tax review including medical expenses for last year yesterday. I still have 2015 and 2014 to do but over the 3 years there are over 1000 euro of credits not applied. I'm not too well versed in tax but does this mean I'm owed that amount back?
Did they give you any workaround as to how to do it apart from the way you did it? And how exactly did you go about it if you don't mind me asking?

I presume you're claiming €200 health insurance tax credit for each year, and then you have over €2000 worth of medical expenses over that period (you can claim 20% of these, so this would give you a credit of €400). If that's the case, then yes you are owed in excess of €1000.

I submit my medical expenses every year using PAYE Anytime/MyAccount. I just add them up and submit the figure to Revenue every January and then am refunded directly to my bank account within a number of weeks.

This is the first year in which my employer is paying my health insurance so I haven't claimed for that previously but will do so in January 2018.

Just to confirm - is your employer paying your health insurance?

It is all a bit buggy. If you delete your Personal Tax Credit you cannot set it up again. The feature which allows you to control the split with a spouse can have a mind of its own. I could not get it to split 50:50 entering the same salaries in both fields, which it what you would expect to happen. So one ends up contacting ROS anyway, which is what the site is designed to stop.

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

Yip, claiming my 200 euro health insurance tax credit as employer pays insurance for me and my partner.

System currently has my bik for the above at 1000 but I changed this to 2000 as the cost of covering us both is over 2000 for both of us. Presume this is correct.

My other credits due are for revenue job assist which I qualified for in 2014 and total to around 500 euro.

Medical expenses for last yr around 700 so should get 20% of them back.

So got my statement back and it turns out that I have somehow paid too little USC for both 2016 and 2015 so I'm now down about a combined €1200 between the two.

No clue how the hell that happened because my USC on the P21 was correct versus that on my P60 when I was entering the figures. Need to talk to payroll I guess. Sickened

You might have been on record as having a medical card maybe?

Yeah, after I got over the initial shock last night I did a bit of frantic digging and turns out I actually had a Medical Card for 2015 and as far as January 2016 and I, like a tool, changed it to say I didn't have one.

Rang today and girl said seeing as I had card for January 2016 I qualify for reduced USC for that year. Requested a re-review which should come through in a few weeks
