SailRail Query

Hopefully you can give me some more information. I'm travelling home to Dublin from Manchester. Flying home to dublin with Ryanair and because it's too expensive on the way back I'm looking at Sail and Rail from Dublin port to Manchester.
SailRail ticket seems to be the best option for me. I've never done this and was wondering if there are any catches to it all?

If I booked a ticket with Irish ferries, say today with travel back from Dublin in about 2 weeks I can just collect the tickets in the port? Is that correct?

Also, do I need to book a seat on any train from Holyhead to Manchester or does my fair cover that and any other transfers included?

Also, what's the difference between and Advance ticket and a Standby Ticket?

Any one got any more information?

You collect it at Dublin port, they’ll give you a slip of paper as your ticket with the relevant destination etc listed. You’ll have to show this to ticket checkers, and to staff at the end station if there’s barriers etc

No need to book a seat, it’s all included (on the uk side, still need to pay to get to Dublin port) not sure there’s reserved seating but there’s usually enough on that route!

Advance tickets are booked at least a day in advance I believe, they’re slightly cheaper. Standby tickets can be bought right up until the time. Going from the uk to ireland advance tickets usually list specific trains to catch, standby don’t. (Not sure if leaving from Ireland has the same rule! as I’m pretty sure the ticket you get just lists final destination)

You can check times / connections on the train line website (from Holyhead, seems to be dodgy nowadays if you try from Dublin and not list everything)

There’s also a bus option (eurolines, bookable via bus eireann) leaving busaras at 7:50pm, might make more sense if you were getting that late evening ferry, as the train option results in a couple hours wait in Holyhead. Bus only seems to run certain days now though.

Ask for a sailrail to Dublin. you get a ticket that covers you for rail/ferry.

If you are going the otherway (Dublin-Manchester) you will get a token that you need to take to the booking office in Holyhead railway station BEFORE you get on the train.
