Anyone well up on these cars, is it a case with the AMG line is it's a lot easier sell in a few years over the ordinarily one as with the BMW M editions. (or is that just boardies?)

There's a massive price difference between the new model 2017 and the older 2016, is that the old one has depreciated rapidly as there's a new edition? Should the 2017 hold it's value a lot better, seems to be 10-15k price difference just for 1 year.

Thinking something like this one http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/mercedes-benz/e-class/used-2017-171-mercedes-benz-e-class-e-dublin-fpa-1673000453267424549

    All thoughts welcome thanks.

Mercedes dropped the prices across their range by 10% at the beginning of the year so it most likely had an impact on resale values. That and the fact that these cars depreciate hard and you can import one cheaper from the UK. AMG v SE is down to personal taste. The AMG like BMW M Sport are nicer looking than the SE models imo but larger wheels and stiffer suspension on the AMG might not suit everyone though.

I think someone here mentioned spec increases on the E Class for 2018 also so might be worth holding tight for a little while longer and see what impact that has on resale values of 17/16 reg models.

Yea I can hold on until early next year no panic to buy something until then. Thought that one was ok priced considering the specification seem to be a good few expensive extras like the panoramic room full digital dash, hitch. If it was AMG body i'd probably jump at it.

Test drove the XC 90 didn't like it to drive, was glad to jump back into my own car, think this is the only real alternative if I want 7 seats loads of space and not a jeep/suv.

Is the new E Class estate a 7 seater? I thought the dropped the 3rd row of seats a few generations back?

Still a 7 seater, 2k extra for seats, hitch probably 1k, sunroof 3k, full digital dash think it’s part of another 3k add on...that 171 is probably north of 65k new with the extras.

The e class third row are rear facing and not as good as regular third rows like xc90, x5 etc. And there is only room to stuff a few loose bags round the kids when they are in use. At least in the others you have some small amount of boot space with the seats in place. I took one for test drive a few years back and my kids wanted out after a few mins so that also ruled it out at the time.
However If you find it works for you that one you linked is best value I've seen and I'm sure you could upgrade to AMG wheels.

Really didn't like the x90 and went with the intention of buying it, the touchscreen is a bit of a disaster had it fudged it in no time and a complete distraction, you had time to make a coffee while waiting for the turbo to kick in it sure didn't feel like 200bhp.
The X5 I dunno there a lot of money probably talking 50k for a 2014, I have a 530 and mrs monkey has an x3. I'm just not gone on the new bmw interior doesn't feel like much of an upgrade and i'm not a fan of the big screen on the dash, think the new E-Class interior looks classy and modern.

My issue really is 3 kids under 4, thinking bikes and holidays and the E-Class should swallow it all.

Difficult to fit three car seats across the e class I think but in fairness that is an issue for all unless you go people carrier.
There isa group test in this months car magazine of the 520d bmw e220 and d4 v90 Volvo. Bmw shades it for them.

Tried an x5 3.0d SE 7 seater today 151, very disappointed with the quality of the interior very cheap feeling plastic and trim. Loads of bits falling off or already gone, scratched and damaged I expected a lot more they really dropped standards that year.. Boot is miserable with the back seats up, buggy wouldn't fit in without dropping one of the seats.

Think i'm out of options bar a galaxy or similar. The merc or beamer estates won't do the job as i'd have to use a multimac which mean also carrying a buggy and maxi cosy in the boot which won't leave room for much else.

Volvo v90 is the only one in the range you can get the family pack on with 2 integrated booster seats but don't think i'll manage to get them to stay in the seat so not really a runner.

I've a 151 edition e class estate, which is the previous model. It doesn't have the 3rd row as the adblue tank is in the rear. I would have assumed the new model was similar.

I would also think getting the kids out of the rear facing seats in the boot would be a pain, particularly if they are young.

I can get 3 kids seats across the back seat and I've a friend who has three (including a maxi cost) in a saloon e class. The boot in the estate is great.

SMax Vignale or the BMW 2 Series with the 7 seats?
(With enough left over to buy something interesting)

Terrible looking yokes in my view, but what about a Q7? I think they come with 6 isofix points. They are only available with a 6 cylinder I think so should be reasonable enough to go.

Cannot see how a Q7 is any prettier than the E Class to be honest.

I was referring to to the Q7. I think the e-class is a nice car

Drove the new Peugeot 5008 today, took the 3 Isofix seats with me and all fitted no problem in the second row, it’s a no brainier at this stage it’s after trumping the lot of them without breaking the bank. It’s so much more flexible than anything else I’ve tried and the boot is massive, will fit 2 kids bikes, buggy and a ton of luggage and looks good while doing it.
I’ll hold onto my 530 but the x3’s days are numbered.
