Gum and teeth problems

I'm fed up with my issue. I have bleeding gums. I don't want to go into detail just how bad but I had to get over my fear of dentists earlier this year and do something.

It was recommended that I have three months cleans. If that's what it takes. I also received a lecture on brushing and flossing. I'm quite obsessive with brushing and even flossing now. I have to have my whole mouth numbed because I have such sensitive teeth. The injections were uncomfortable and I cried in pain. This is something I do not want again so I am of course brushing and flossing.

I have had a clean again this week and I came out feeling as if I'm not brushing and flossing and I still have inflamed gums. I wouldn't be there if I didn't need help and I know alot of it is based on home care which I'm doing.

This is the third time this year and I keep going back because I know I have a problem. But how in the hell do I stop inflammation of the gums even when I'm brushing and flossing.

Has anyone ever had a similar issue. I need help.

Have you tried using a mouthwash like Listerine Antiseptic? Use a brush with a soft bristle.

Would a dental hygienist be of help?
Do you smoke? I use to get bleeding gums and gum disease often but found once I finally gave up smoking it disappeared permanently.

I don't smoke. I use a mouthwash that was recommended from the dentist with chlorhexidine in it. I use soft bristles on an electric toothbrush.

I'm at a loss because it's been going on for so long and even after following recommendations from the dental hygienist, nothing is working.

I read about scurvy and a lack of vitamin c could cause gum problems. I sometimes take mega doses but I just end up with the runs. But I'm not sure if one 1000mg capsule a day is enough.

    Try plaque disclosing tablets.
Ask your GP to take bloods to check for any underlying health issue.
    See a periodontist for consultation/assessment.

Try interdental brushes instead of floss. Start with a low numbered one and brush in between your teeth. There needs to be some resistance but not too much.

I could never get the hang of flossing but the interdental brushes worked fine.

Smoking actually reduces bleeding, or masks gingivitis completely.

It's true, most smokers have bad gums, but don't realise because the smoking masks it. Just ask any hygienist or dentist.

So smoking masks bad gums? It doesn't exactly fix the problem.

Anyway, is there anything else along with visiting the dentist, the hygienist, following their advice I can do. I thought they would refer me to a periodontist? I'm just very very tired with all this and I'm not seeing results.
