    Would anyone know if you moved from an admin job from the CS to the PS do you start on the 1st point of the scale or do you move to the equivalent pay scale and don't lose out on anything remuneration wise?

    There is an agreement in place since 2015 which allows pub sec to get credit for time served when going to cs, so I'd imagine it works both ways although in pub sec, organizations can be smaller and have more control over their own affairs than cs.

    If going directly from CS to PS you should be put at the scale nearest your CS salary plus one level. As long as the new scale has that amount in it.

    I have heard stories, especially in the HSE, where people are denied their service for increments due to the old role not being in the same area as the new role. If this happens fight it and involve the union.

    Do you've any details on that agreement out of interest? It would be interesting to see which public sector organisations do take into account previous work experience in the Civil Service.

    THere is usually something in the job spec/post information booklet along the lines of;

    New entrants to the civil/public service will start on the first point of the salary scale.

    I went ps to cs. I wasn't going unless my salary was at least being matched. As part of my contract, there is a paragraph from a DPER document stating that I should be be put on an imaginary point the same as my ps salary and then moved to next increment when due. Im not sure if it works both ways. I know my ps organization allowed people even from private sector to come in mid scale even though job spec said start at the bottom.

    I moved from Paul to cs. Got my service applied and got the next increment at my 12month (combined) anniversary.
