Yes, so I've decided to permanently close my account. I was thinking about this for a while, but browsing through here today and posting, I decided to go ahead. This section which was the only reason I made an account on here in the first place has turned into an absolute shitfest.
Lots of condescending, high horsery and "my way or the highway" attitude, nothing like the old Motors section (rip). People on here have pretty much just become arseholes, so I've decided to pursue my Motoring interests elsewhere.

Big thanks to everyone who's ever helped me on here, really appreciate it. Met a few grand lads through here as well, bear1, Foxhole Norman, Eric Cartman and Cheensbo just to name a few :)

Goodbye, and I wish Boards Motors section all the best.

I don't think it's gotten worse. I remember many discussions about cycling, pulling into the hard shoulder to let people pass, roundabout usage, undertaking on the motorway, breaking the speed limit and parking going back even longer than the 7 years this account is open (my previous account never worked again after Boards got hacked back then).
They were far worse back then, much more agitated and bad tempered. Compared to that it's relatively civilised now.

Best of luck. What you say is true but think it's the same in every internet forum. Though I don't find myself disagreeing with people as much In the real world . It's probably that forums attract opinionated people - myself included

I've only been browsing here a few months but I have noticed people are quick to jump to being negative towards people. A couple of times I've mentioned something that happened while driving and people will tell me what I was doing. I haven't noticed much negativity or hostility in my time on the cycling forums.

For example yesterday I was passing people on the M11 and there was a motorbike up my arse so I moved over to let him pass and I'm 99% certain he flipped me off. People on here would be quick to say "No you were lane hogging" as if they were in the back seat and know it all when in reality the biker was just an arsehole, he was splitting between cars at about 130-140kph up ahead. I'd like to think it was a thank you wave but my sister was also certain he flipped me off...

But of course if you post something like you do 130kph on a 100kph because you "drive how you want to" of course you're going to get grief for it, and rightly so.

I'm just glad BMW drivers are not getting the blame this time.

a grand gesture but it will change nothing.

I see your account is still open, I bet you can't resist posting before the day is out.

Irony of a member with a two year old account talking about the "old motors section".

    Lol

Can't really disagree.. this has been covered several times over the last few years as well.

The problems with this forum I think stem from the little sub-groups and chat threads that have been allowed develop, with conversations and arguments spilling into other topics constantly, along wth some very hands-off moderation (usually not a bad thing, but it is in this case).

The result is that the place is extremely unwelcoming - especially to new posters - and some of the ridiculing and nonsense that goes on in response to genuine questions is disgraceful. It's also highly ironic when you read some of the views from some of the "regulars" on undertaking, or moving into the hard shoulder briefly to let faster cars past... hardly experts themselves in many cases!

Personally I used to spend a lot of time reading threads and posting here, but nowadays barely even look at this forum.

Polan, maybe I’m different to most people in that I couldn’t tell you the username of 99.9% if people who post replies to my threads/comments as quite frankly I don’t give a shíte if their comment agrees or disagrees with mine. They might be downright nasty but for all I know the same person might 100% agree with my next comment the following day, it doesn’t really matter. Everyone is pretty anonymous, I only actually know one person who posts in this section regularly, I could work with 20 of the rest of them but unless they reveal their identities to me then I have no idea who they are and that suits me just fine.

If you want to take your ball and go home then that’s fine but it’s a bit immature to be honest.

I am a member here for a long time. And to be honest, this forum is no different to any other public forum. You get all kind of people. Good posters, knowladgable posters, attention posters, stubborn poster and always dick posters.

The whole "back in the day, was better" is kind of bull****. There was always drama and always good times. I still remember good old "bmw535d" days, those were great.

Closing account for me always felt cringy. Sow it plenty of times. In majority cases posters come back under new names.
In no offence to polan, but I dont know what he expected with this thread. Good luck in future ventures.

Look at the amount of dicks on Irish roads, how could the motoring forum be any different :)

    You needn't worry.

It's not his first account so I'm sure we'll hear from him again under another username shortly.

Steady 7/10 effort for attention seeking thread of the year though. If anyone has anything constructive that they think the forum could do or benefit from please feel free to PM a mod, we don't bite :) it's a community and all that.
