Removing back seats. Illegal?

    Howdy all

Long story short... commercial insurance on a car-van is driving me insane as I'm not a business owner/VAT reg'd. It's a lot of hassle.

I need a small car/carvan to get me 1 mile to and from work - and I want to put 2 big dogs in the boot/back, when I need to.

Can i buy a 1L yaris for example -big boot door, whip out the back seats and use it for me, the missus and the 2 dogs when I have to?
(now I haven't seen the inside of a Yaris, so if the seats fold realtively flat - then no need to remove.)

Legal to whip out 2 seats?

    TIA

You need to put them back for NCT, but yeah you can remove backseats if you like, on regular insurance and tax etc

Yes, but you need to put them back for NCT.

I drive an Audi a2 as a little commuter, no back seats and my mountain bike goes in the back easily as well as a couple of Labradors on occasion.
Only myself and my gf so I don't need the back seats.
The seats remove completely within 2mins leaving loads of space.

Tons of cars that have removable (i.e. without any tools) rear seats, you should check that out.
Been driving a few CMaxeseses and the seats in those can be taken in and out or folded flat with relative ease.
I've never tried to NCT it without the back seats, don't know if it would pass. Buy easy to put back

Nearly every hatchback will fold down the rear seats to neatly flat. But the problem you have is that you now will have 2 unrestrained dogs if involved in a crash.

Use a dog guard to stop them climbing into front or being thrown there in an accident

A Yaris has a sliding and tumbling rear seat, no need to even remove them.

Yaris Verso seats fold completely into the floor

    And what about the dogs?

Corolla verso may be the car for you.
Once you fold down the rear seats it's pretty much a van.
Have one myself for ferrying the kids around. Also good for lugging large stuff too.
I just collected a gas oven today from power city with it.

you'll pick one of these up for a few hundred euro. a few hundred more gets a solid one.

I've seen a few cars gone through the nct with rear seats taken out. Once the seatbelts are removed aswell.
But it can depend on the tester I suppose.

    Been a busy evening.

Delighted to log in and see so many helpful replies! Many many thanks!!

Oh - dogs would be wearing harnesses and clipped-in via bungees to luggage hooks, or DIY fixings. No way they'd be loose in case of a crash.

    Thanks again

I still remember Clarksons comment. "Just savour the awfulness". :D
But I never mind a car with odd looks. I think the old Multipla was quite striking looking.
