Longines buckle - spring bar

Added a link to my 1967 Diver bracelet, knowing it'd probably be too big and intending to adjust slightly using the adjustment slots on the buckle. Everyone probably can guess what's coming next, but as i was adjusting....pppeeeeewwwwnnnn...the springbar came out and flew across the room. I've recovered the bar and the two end pieces, but not the spring. It's lost in the endless sea of grey carpet in one of the meeting rooms in work, so I'm kind of resigned to it being gone. :(

Does anyone know if I can pick even a new bar up handy enough, or am I in a spot of bother?

It should be a standard spring bar but obviously you also need to be careful about the diameter as well given that a steel bracelet won't be able to stretch. I suppose you've been over the carpet with a magnet, checked the cat's hearing etc?

Thanks, CB, I'll try a standard one then and see how it goes. I've been over the carpet with a fine tooth comb, but no magnet available unfortunately (and tbh I never thought of one - I'll do that Monday).

Don't think the boss would take too kindly me bringing a cat in to meeting rooms, though :D

    You have shag-pile at work?

Is shag-pile the very fluffy carpet? Alas, no. Tis as coarse as sandpaper - you wouldn't be doing Klinsmann dives on it, that's for sure!

    Back to annoy :o

I bought a set of spring bars in Maplin, but they're too thick for the buckle. I thought as much, but bought anyway just in case.

I took the spring bar off the rubber strap clasp to try it out, but it's too wide (22mm v 20mm on the steel bracelet), so i'm back to square one.

Could anyone point me in the right direction as regards getting a thinner spring bar or how i might find out the right size/type?

Here is the size variations available on the Cousins website.

Obviously it would help if you knew the size that you needed - do you have any way of measuring the spring bar that's too thick and then possibly estimate the size of the tube it needs to go into?

Thanks again CB - happen to have it all in work with me at the moment and think checking the size of the tube might be possible. I'll try that and even get an approximate measurement and order a couple of packs of different sizes off the Cousins website (unless you'd recommend any different?).

Cousins should be OK - it sometimes feels like you have to swallow your pride to use them but it's difficult to get the broad range that they have elsewhere. It's a shame that they don't do a small box set of 20mm bars of differing diameter.

My thanks again CB, I've ordered a few sets - will see how i get on with them!
